1878-1960
Hubert Heitman was born in College City, Colusa County, California in 1878. As a boy he spent his summers as a cowboy, gaining a love for cattle that was to stay with him throughout his life.
He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1901 with a dental degree. After marrying Blanche Peart in 1903, he practiced dentistry briefly in Arbuckle and Maxwell, in Merced for 10 years, and San Francisco for 25 years before retiring in 1938.
Hubert had spent his first college year on the San Francisco campus of the University of California. Subsequently all four of his children graduated from some UC campus.
During the 1930's he purchased a ranch north of Colusa and developed a fine herd of registered Jersey cattle. After he retired he went there to live and developed a lovely garden that was widely visited by interested groups from northern California.
Dr. Heitman was very proud of the University of California and was a strong supporter of the Davis campus. He loved to visit here and was a regular attendant at the annual Livestock Day, Picnic Day, and other special events.
