Requirements/Academics

Overview

The Animal Science Advising Center advises on four majors leading to the Bachelor of Science degree: Animal Science, Animal Science & Management, Avian Sciences, and Agricultural and Environmental Education.
Students in these programs develop a strong foundation in mathematics, chemistry, general biology, and introductory animal science.  For information on Animal Science Graduate Studies, click here.

Upper division courses focus on the disciplines that encompass animal science (e.g. behavior, genetics, nutrition, physiology, managerial economics) and the biology of animal functions (e.g. growth, lactation, reproduction).

Advanced courses on the care, management, and production of a variety of animal species form the capstone of the curriculum.

Research and animal management internships, independent studies, and management traineeships in laboratories, campus animal facilities, field stations, and private enterprises provide students with firsthand experience in the application of the animal sciences to problem solving in biology, animal agriculture, and animal care.
